Here the title, like with the painting entitled SUNRISE points clearly to the figurative realm. The word itself is a typical title for figurative landscapes. However, as I like to say, these are landscape paintings with neither land nor scape. One finds nowhere to stand in these works, there is no real land. And the skies are not blue, or seldom so. Still there is a division in each one that is similar to a horizon line. In this painting one can imagine the yellow that rides along that line to be reminiscent of early sunlight. In this way, the painting nears but resists representation, toying with it. It proposes landscape as its genre, if only to use it as a place of departure.
